Bernadette Peters: A Broadway Baby Turns 60!
Birthday greetings go out to Bernadette Peters who turned 60 yesterday! Performing since she was 3, Peters has had quite a varied career in theater, film and TV, but we will always think of her as a Broadway Baby. Born Bernadette Lazzara in Queens, New York, she received her Equity card at 9 and changed her name to Peters (her dad’s name was Peter). The crazy part is that she literally has not changed. The talent, the zest and the trademark locks are still overflowing. BU fondly remembers her star turn in Andrew LLoyd Webber’s Song and Dance, for which she took home the Tony and the Drama Desk Award for best performance by a lead actress in 1986. She is currently belting out tunes across America on a concert tour.

Thanks for the item on Bernadette Peters. It is truly hard to believe that she is 60 because she is exactly the same. Years ago she was in a tv sitcom in a political setting. Does anyone remember the name of the show?

The name of the sit-com that Bernadette starred in was “All’s Fair”. Her co-star was Richard Crenna. It ran for 1 season, 1976-1977, and Bernadette received a Golden Globe nomination for her work.
